 A very easy way to remember vocabulary when learning a new language, is to translate from one you already know to another. Here’s a few steps to make a good translation : 

1. Make sure that you know every single word.

While reading, you should be able to translate every single word. There shouldn’t be any of them that you don’t know about. 

For new words, make your search. For the ones that you know, make sure to understand the meaning. That way you will start your translation on a good base of knowledge. 

2. Understand the sentences.

Now that you understand every word you can put them together and, (surprise!) you’ll be reading some beautiful sentences. I recommend you to pick a text about a subject you are familiar with. Since words and phrases can often have a few different meanings, you don’t want to miss the context. 

3. Understand the text

No matter the language, every kind of text has an intention. It can be to inform the reader about something by a description or an explanation. The purpose of a text can also be to express a feeling or an opinion. If you’re swimming in the sentences and you feel like a castaway because you don’t get the point of the text, you can’t explain its purpose, you can’t tell who’s the target audience, you’re actually drowning.
